The state has been grappling with issues of poor workmanship, substandard materials, and alleged corruption. In July, a similar disaster claimed the lives of 22 schoolchildren and injured 132 others in Jos North Local Government Area.

In response to the crisis, the state government had previously shut down Saint Academy and demolished other unsafe structures within the school premises, urging residents to prioritize safety in construction practices.
