At least seven people have died and several others are feared trapped after a five-story building collapsed in Surat, Gujarat, on Saturday, according to police and rescue officials.
Babulal Yadav from the National Disaster Response Force reported the building’s collapse on Saturday afternoon, and rescue operations resumed Sunday.
Teams are working tirelessly to clear the debris and locate any remaining survivors, said Deputy Police Commissioner Rajesh Parmar.

“It’s unclear how many people are still trapped,” Parmar noted, adding that one woman was rescued after a 12-hour operation on Saturday.
The cause of the collapse has yet to be determined.
