The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, has warned states against actions threatening national security.
Fagbemi accused Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara of influencing militants to sabotage oil pipelines, justifying Tinubu’s emergency declaration.
He stated that Fubara’s failure to denounce militant threats made him complicit in attacks on critical infrastructure.

“The governor telegraphed militants, hinting he’d notify them when to act, but never disowned their threats,” he asserted.
Fagbemi emphasized Nigeria’s oil sector’s importance, warning that pipeline attacks threaten not only Rivers but the entire nation.

He maintained that Tinubu’s decision followed legal precedent, ensuring protection of vital assets and restoration of governance.
“The governor and assembly members failed to maintain stability, necessitating their suspension for effective governance,” he explained.
Fagbemi clarified that the National Assembly could uphold or overturn the president’s decision with a two-thirds majority.
His remarks signal the federal government’s readiness to take action against any threat to national stability.
