The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) in a bid to leverage on strategic partnerships for affordable housing , is set to collaborate with the Ekiti State Government to realize effective housing delivery in the State.
This was made known during a Courtesy visit by the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Abiodun Oyebanji, to the Managing Director/ CEO of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria ,Shehu Osidi, at the bank headquarters in Abuja. The Governor, represented by his Special Adviser on Housing and Mortgage Development, Gboyega Oloniyo, disclosed that in line with the bold vision of the Ekiti State Government to provide affordable housing, the partnership had become imperative.
He said “ we are looking at how we can deliver about 2,000 Units of housing for the good people of Ekiti State. We have come here to fast track that. We also need to understand that Ekiti state has a huge diaspora population and as a result the off takers should not be a problem”.
Highlighting the significance of the Visit, he further added” We are looking at providing for high-end users and the mass for the generality of civil servants. It is assured that if you are on the same page, the actualization of this would be confirmed”.
Reacting to the proposition from the Ekiti State Government, the Managing director, FMBN, Usman Osidi, harped on the need to further build synergy across all quarters for affordable housing delivery. He highlighted the reasons why the Federal Mortage Bank of Nigeria decided to venture into financing housing construction.

“ we feel excited when State Government extend hands of fellowship to us for provision of affordable housing for Nigerians. Our mandate reimains to provide homeownership principally by mortgage financing”.
“One of the reasons the FMBN decided to venture into housing construction is so that we can achieve controlled prices for the kind of housing that we are financing. Generally, the houses available in the market are not within the threshold of affordability for our target market. Hence, the need to intervene”He said.

Osidi further extolled the virtues of the Ekiti State Government in providing affordable housing for the people of the State. This Strategic move is geared towards the actualization of affordable housing Delivery in Ekiti State. The move further highlights the key impetus of the Oyebanji-led administration to ramp up housing projects across Ekiti State.
