The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reported that active internet subscribers across all service providers reached 142,161,409 as of January 2025, with GSM technology leading at 141,655,587, followed by Wireless at 285,702, and VoIP at 206,067 subscribers.
The Fixed Wired technology had 14,053 subscribers, making it the least-used internet service, while CDMA technology recorded zero users, confirming its obsolescence within the Nigerian telecom sector due to newer technological advancements.

Between August 2024 and January 2025, the number of GSM-based internet users increased steadily from 130 million to 141 million, reflecting strong consumer preference for mobile-based internet access over fixed broadband alternatives.
Chairman of ALTON, Gbenga Adebayo, explained that GSM technology remains the preferred choice because it is faster to deploy, with users increasingly favoring mobile browsing, making CDMA obsolete due to its inability to compete effectively.
