Landowners in Kano State are running out of time. The government has given a final 60-day extension for those who have not recertified their Certificates of Occupancy.
After this period, land titles may be revoked.
The Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, AbdulJabbar Garko, made this clear during a recent press briefing. He said the government will publish the names of defaulters. These names will appear in national newspapers and at key public places.

The locations include the Kano State Library, Audu Bako Secretariat, Gidan Murtala, and the State High Court.
Garko said the government has made many efforts to inform landowners. But many people still haven’t taken action. He warned that ignoring this process could lead to a total loss of land ownership. This is allowed under the Land Use Act.
So far, the ministry has documented more than 241,000 properties in Nasarawa and Fagge areas. The property survey is also ongoing in Tarauni, Dala, Kano Municipal, and Gwale.
The message is clear: landowners must act now to protect their rights. Waiting longer could mean losing their land for good.
