The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled power supply rationing for customers of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The rationing will take place from January 6 to January 20, 2025.
This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, who explained that the temporary power disruption is necessitated by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA)’s road dualisation project along the Apo axis.
The project requires the relocation of eight 132kV and 33kV transmission towers along the Kukwaba/Apo 132kV line (Outer Southern Expressway route).
Areas expected to be affected include Kubwa, Karu, Mararaba, Nyanya, Masaka, Keffi, Kukwaba, Apo Mechanic, and parts of Lugbe, Trademore Estate, Pyakasa, Sabon Lugbe, Chika, and Alaita axis.
Mrs. Mbah stated, “This relocation work will necessitate a planned power outage from January 6 to January 20, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily. This will allow for the dismantling and reconstruction of the towers and the restringing of power cables to ensure the resumption of bulk power supply to the Apo Transmission Substation from Gwagwalada Substation.”
While apologizing for the inconvenience, TCN assured customers that power supply would be fully restored as soon as the relocation and cable work are completed.
It is worth noting that AEDC had earlier announced power interruptions in parts of its franchise areas, including the FCT, between January 6 and January 21, in alignment with TCN’s relocation activities.
TCN emphasized that the relocation of the transmission towers is critical to the completion of the road project, highlighting its commitment to supporting infrastructure development while maintaining electricity services.
