Taiye Agboola, a construction worker, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for defiling his neighbour’s 10-year-old daughter.
The court, presided over by Justice Rahman Oshodi, handed down the sentence after considering Agboola’s confession, the medical report, the testimony of the investigating police officer, and the victim’s mother, all of which were consistent.
According to the medical examiner, the victim told her that Agboola had penetrated her vagina with his finger.
The investigating police officer also testified that Agboola had confessed to the crime, admitting to penetrating the survivor’s vagina with his finger.
Justice Oshodi emphasized the importance of the evidence, stating, “There could not be a better eyewitness than the account of Agboola, the convict’s confession, the IPO, and the medical report that corroborated the survivor’s evidence.”
He accepted Agboola’s confession that he had put his finger in the survivor’s vagina and caressed her body, concluding that the prosecution had proved the burden of defilement of a child by penetration against the defendant beyond a reasonable doubt.
Addressing Agboola, Justice Oshodi said, “The defendant, an adult, sexually penetrated a 10-year-old girl by fingering her vagina in her parents’ house which is supposed to be a safe place.” He also noted that the physical, psychological harm, and trauma caused by the convict would affect the survivor’s growth.
