AEDC Apologizes for Incorrect Charges Amid Tariff Adjustment

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company Plc (AEDC) has issued an apology to customers affected by erroneous charges following a system glitch.

The glitch occurred as a result of the reclassification of some Band A customers to Band B under the new tariff regime.

In a statement, AEDC acknowledged the issue faced by certain Band A customers who attempted to recharge their meters after the recent tariff adjustment.

The glitch led to these customers being charged the new rate of N225 per Kilowatt Hour, instead of their appropriate Band B rate.

The company assured customers that their team is actively working to identify those affected, and any excess charges will be promptly refunded. Additionally, customers who were erroneously charged at the old rate will be updated to the new rate once the glitch is resolved, ensuring a minimum supply of 20 hours daily.

Expressing regret for any inconvenience caused, AEDC reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing power supply across all customer categories, soliciting understanding and support during this transition period.

The tariff adjustment, approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), saw customers in the Band A category facing an increase in electricity rates, from N66 to N225 per kilowatt-hour. Vice Chairman of NERC, Musliu Oseni, announced the tariff adjustment on Wednesday, reflecting ongoing efforts to address power sector challenges.
