NLC Holds Protest in Abuja Over Economic Hardship

Today, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) organized a protest in Abuja to denounce the prevailing economic hardship gripping the nation.

Led by union leaders, hundreds of demonstrators marched from the Labour House Headquarters, commencing at precisely 9:36 am.

Carrying banners and chanting slogans demanding an end to hunger and poverty, the protesters called attention to the dire economic conditions faced by Nigerians across the country. The demonstration drew participants from various labor unions, including the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, and the Construction Workers’ Union.

Among the prominent figures present were Ene Obi, former Nigeria Country Director of ActionAid, and Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress. The protest route traversed key areas of Abuja, with demonstrators making their voices heard against the backdrop of rising inflation and pervasive insecurity.

As the protest unfolded, similar demonstrations erupted in other parts of the country, including Lagos, Jos, and Bayelsa, where members of the NLC expressed their grievances over the soaring cost of living and the worsening economic situation.
