In a resolute message to the newly appointed heads of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, emphasized the imperative of delivering tangible results or facing dismissal.
During their inaugural meeting in Abuja, Dangiwa underscored the significance of their roles in driving impactful service rather than personal gain. He stressed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to evaluating and replacing appointees who fail to meet expectations, emphasizing their ultimate responsibility to the Nigerian people.
“As Minister of Housing and Urban Development, I have specific objectives from Mr. President. Your roles as agency leaders entail devising strategies to achieve them. Success will ensure your tenure, while failure will result in early termination. Mr. President’s message is clear: focus on meeting targets during review sessions, not on tenure lengths,” remarked the minister.
Dangiwa outlined key expectations for both agencies. For the FMBN, these include delivering a minimum of 5,000 new homes annually, disbursing mortgage loans to at least 20,000 Nigerians yearly, expanding the National Housing Fund collection, addressing audit backlog, and implementing the Diaspora Mortgage Scheme.
Similarly, the FHA is expected to demonstrate flexibility and innovation, issuing bonds for funding mass housing projects, delivering a minimum of 5,000 houses annually, and leveraging partnerships to enhance housing delivery nationwide.
The minister emphasized that the ministry will closely monitor progress through key performance indicators (KPIs), with performance being the sole criterion for assessment.
President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for Housing and Urban Development remains a top priority, with the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme showcasing the administration’s commitment to tangible results.
