On Tuesday evening, a harrowing incident unfolded at the bustling Abdullahi Supermarket in One Man Village, near Mararaba, as suspected criminals unleashed terror, resulting in the deaths of four customers, among them a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) employee.
The victim from CBN, Daniel Adefemi Okunade, was instantly killed after being shot in the head, as per his identification card recovered from the scene. Regrettably, the identities of the other three victims remained unknown at the time of this report.
Eyewitnesses recounted a swift robbery, lasting under two minutes, during which Okunade, also the choir master at the local Christ Apostolic Church, fell victim to gunfire. His visit to the supermarket for a bread purchase tragically intersected with the ruthless intrusion of armed robbers, claiming multiple lives among the patrons.

While the criminals targeted lives, notably, Okunade’s parked Toyota Venza remained untouched, underscoring the brutality of the attack and its focus solely on the individuals present.
Okunade, described as returning from work, encountered the perpetrators in a fatal encounter that cut short his life unexpectedly.
The immediate aftermath saw an atmosphere of tension in the area, with people flooding the supermarket in an attempt to identify the victims. The New Nyayan Divisional Police Station responded swiftly, transporting the victims’ remains to the Mararaba Medical Center mortuary.

As of now, official information from the police concerning the incident remains unavailable, leaving the community grappling with shock and sorrow. However, a wave of condolences and support, including from church members, poured into the late CBN staff’s family residence.
The tragic events have not only taken lives but also left a community reeling from the sudden loss of its members in an act of heinous violence.
