The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s directive for inclusive development across the territory, emphasizing that infrastructure expansion must reach beyond the city center into rural communities.

Speaking during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Ketti and Takushara—two satellite towns within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC)—Wike stressed the importance of equitable growth.

“Like Mr. President has always emphasized, we should not only concentrate in the cities. We must take development to the satellite towns,” the minister stated.

Wike announced that the newly constructed roads, critical for linking satellite communities with central Abuja, are slated for commissioning by the end of May 2025, marking Tinubu’s second year in office. He commended AMAC Chairman, Christopher Maikalangu, for advocating for the projects, noting that “if not for him, probably we would not have had our attention drawn to this place.”

Beyond road infrastructure, Wike revealed plans to build new schools in Ketti and Takushara once the 2025 statutory budget is passed. He highlighted how improved access could make living outside the city more appealing, reduce urban congestion, and spur property development in the outskirts.

“From here to the city is up to 10 minutes. That is what the road network brings. It will open up the entire place,” he said.

Responding to concerns about deteriorating roads within Federal Housing Authority (FHA) estates, Wike stated that the maintenance of those private developments lies with the FHA, not the FCT Administration. “We focus on projects that benefit the public,” he asserted.

In a message aligned with the Easter season, Wike urged residents to embrace unity and forgiveness, saying, “Christ was killed for our good. It is a period of forgiveness. Nigerians should work together for the interest of Nigerians.”

The Ketti and Takushara road projects form part of a larger vision to make Abuja a more inclusive, accessible, and balanced urban environment.
