In Katsina State, recent developments underscore the enduring impact of public-private collaboration in education and the cultural significance of traditional institutions. Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure around a newly established school in Zango town, while the Daura Emirate has honoured three prominent Nigerians with traditional titles in recognition of their service to society.

During an official inspection of the Girls Science and Islamic Studies Secondary School in Zango, Governor Radda pledged to support the construction of access roads and drainage systems around the school complex. The institution, built through the Maryam Endowment Fund by philanthropist Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura, represents a significant private sector contribution to education in the state.

The Governor commended the initiative, noting its alignment with government goals on inclusive and quality education. “This project complements government efforts in education. We appreciate the gesture and are committed to supporting its infrastructural needs,” Radda said.

Project consultant Engineer Abba Mato elaborated on the extensive facilities at the school, which include 20 classrooms, multipurpose assembly halls, two female hostels, staff quarters, an NYSC lodge, a mosque, an ICT center, and an administrative block. However, he noted that road access and drainage systems remain unfinished and appealed to the state government for assistance.

The inspection was witnessed by top government officials and political figures, including Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly; Senator Nasiru Sani Zango; Member representing Baure-Zango Federal Constituency, Hon. Sani Lawal; and NEPAD National Coordinator, Alhaji Jabiru Abdullahi Tsauri.

Meanwhile, the cultural heritage of Daura took center stage with a grand turbaning ceremony hosted by His Royal Highness, Emir Faruq Umar Faruq. The Emirate conferred traditional titles on three distinguished individuals for their contributions to public service and nation-building.

Alhaji Hamza Suleiman Faskari, Katsina State Commissioner for Environment, was named Sadaukin Kasar Hausa, Samir Isma’ila Musawa received the title Bulaman Kasar Hausa, while Hon. Ado Alhassan Doguwa, a federal lawmaker from Kano, was honoured as Sardaunan Kasar Hausa Mai Tuta.

The Emir emphasized that titles in Daura are not given lightly, but only to individuals who have proven themselves through service, leadership, and commitment to societal development.

The event brought together high-ranking officials from across the country, including Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, Deputy Governors from Katsina and Kano, Senate Deputy President Barau Jibrin, and numerous legislators.

Adding to the festivities, Governor Radda also attended the wedding of Farina Abdulrazak Yahya Daura and Idris M. Idris at the residence of the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly. The joyful ceremony blended personal celebration with public presence, reflecting the unique character of Daura as both a cultural and political hub in Northern Nigeria.

From infrastructure pledges to cultural celebrations, these events highlight the intertwined roles of governance, community leadership, and tradition in shaping the future of Katsina State and beyond.
