In a bold move to combat hunger and economic hardship, the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has extended its N16 billion Annual National Food Intervention Programme to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Kogi State, delivering tens of thousands of rice bags to vulnerable communities.

At the official flag-off in Abuja, Fatima Abdurrahman, Senior Special Adviser to the President of Dangote Group, announced the donation of 10,000 bags of 10kg rice to the FCT, to be distributed to the poor and underprivileged.

“This intervention is part of our commitment to supporting all levels of government in easing the burden on citizens,” Abdurrahman stated, adding that the initiative debuted in 2024 with N15 billion worth of food distributed across Nigeria’s 774 Local Government Areas.

In Kogi State, the response was even larger. The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Rabietu Okute, confirmed the receipt of 40,000 bags of rice, with distribution already underway since March 26, 2025.

The food items were shared through all 21 Local Government Areas and 239 wards, reaching groups such as the disabled and the state’s 23 orphanages. A 12-person committee per LGA was established to ensure transparent and targeted distribution, following Governor Usman Ododo’s directive.

“We are deeply grateful to the Aliko Dangote Foundation,” said Okute. “This gesture is not just a donation—it’s a lifeline.”

Speaking on behalf of ADF during the Kogi distribution, Ademola Adeyemi, GM of Community Affairs at Dangote Cement Plc, noted the effort would further strengthen the relationship between the company and the state.

The Foundation’s CEO, Zouera Youssoufou, described the national food programme as a heartfelt mission to reduce hunger and give back to society.

“Alhaji Aliko Dangote is passionate about philanthropy and committed to building a better, hunger-free Nigeria,” she said.
