The Africa International Housing Show (AIHS), the continent’s largest housing and construction event, has announced the appointment of His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, as the new Chairman of its Board.
The appointment was made official following a meeting of the AIHS board and was described as a strategic move to deepen the impact and reach of the Show, both within Nigeria and across Africa. The leadership of AIHS said the decision reflects the show’s growing stature and its commitment to bringing on board respected voices that embody the values of integrity, national development, and grassroots representation.
Oba Akiolu’s vast experience as a traditional ruler and public servant, including his tenure in the Nigeria Police Force, is expected to play a pivotal role in guiding the AIHS as it expands its influence and delivers on its mission of promotion policies and program that will foster affordable housing for all in Africa
Speaking on the development, the CEO of AIHS, Festus Adebayo, described the Oba’s acceptance of the role as a “great honor” to the entire real estate and housing community. As Chairman, Oba Akiolu is expected to preside over board matters, advise on strategic direction, and support initiatives aimed at mobilizing local and international support for housing delivery across Africa.
AIHS 2025 is scheduled to hold from July 27th to August 1st at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, and will welcome participants from over 21 countries. The event will feature exhibitions, policy forums, housing finance sessions, and CEO roundtables, offering a unique platform to advance affordable housing and sustainable urban development.
With the Oba of Lagos at the helm of the board, expectations are high that AIHS will further consolidate its position as Africa’s most influential housing and construction event.
