The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Council, has expressed concern over increasing house and shop rents across the state.
In a communique issued after its congress in Abakaliki, the NUJ urged the Ebonyi State House of Assembly to regulate rental activities immediately.
A two-bedroom apartment now costs between ₦600,000 and ₦900,000, while a three-bedroom flat is between ₦800,000 and ₦1.2 million annually.

The communique, signed by NUJ State Chairman, Comrade Samson Nwafor, commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for restoring public water supply statewide.
The union urged the state government to trace and repair broken water pipes across communities for improved distribution efficiency.
It also called for strict monitoring of local contractors handling state projects to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
The NUJ emphasized that immediate legislative and administrative interventions are necessary to protect residents from hardship caused by rising rents.
