TETFund to Allocate N2.8bn to Each Public University in 2025

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has announced its 2025 disbursement plan, with significant allocations for tertiary institutions.

Each public university will receive N2.86 billion, while polytechnics and colleges of education will get N1.99 billion and N2.18 billion, respectively.

TETFund Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, disclosed this during a strategic workshop in Abuja, outlining the 2025 guidelines for beneficiary institutions.

Breakdown of the 2025 Disbursement Plan

  • Universities: Normal allocation: N2.56 billion, Zonal allocation: N300 million, Total: N2.86 billion
  • Polytechnics: Normal allocation: N1.79 billion, Zonal allocation: N200 million, Total: N1.99 billion
  • Colleges of Education: Normal allocation: N1.97 billion, Zonal allocation: N200 million, Total: N2.18 billion

Utilization and Implementation Guidelines

Institutions must fully utilize 2024 and previous allocations while ensuring swift procurement for 2025 disbursement access.

The Federal Government has directed that physical infrastructure funds will focus on:

  • Rehabilitation of dilapidated structures in beneficiary institutions.
  • Advanced planning of projects through institutional physical planning and consultancy units.
  • Increased funding for research, staff training, and book development.

2025 TETFund Disbursement Structure

The total allocation will be divided into:

  • 91.08% for direct disbursement (48.90% annual, 42.18% special projects).
  • 8.72% for designated projects, including student hostels and mechanized farms
  • 0.20% for stabilization funds.

Key Focus Areas for 2025

  • Medical Education Expansion: Improved infrastructure for training doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and dentists using simulation technology.
  • Energy and Infrastructure: Alternative power solutions and improved campus security and disaster recovery.
  • Research and Innovation: National Research Fund expansion and strengthened industry-academic partnerships under the Triple Helix Initiative.
  • Technical and Vocational Education (TVET): Upgrading engineering workshops and laboratories across tertiary institutions.
  • New Agricultural Initiatives: Additional funding for research laboratories and demonstration farms.

New Intervention Initiatives for 2025

  • Diaspora Outreach/Exchange Program for faculty collaboration.
  • Staff Support Fund for universities, polytechnics, and colleges.
  • Electric tricycles for campus transportation.
  • Student Startup/Innovation Grants to support entrepreneurship.
  • 12 new Entrepreneurship for Innovation Hubs in polytechnics and colleges.

TETFund will also expand the TERAS platform to modernize digital learning in Nigerian institutions.

Echono urged institutions to reduce reliance on government funding and partner with the private sector for infrastructure development.

The workshop had representatives from ASUU, NBTE, and other key education sector stakeholders in attendance.

The 2025 TETFund disbursement plan marks a major step toward improving tertiary education infrastructure, research, and innovation in Nigeria.
