A massive explosion at the Otedola Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway caused panic among motorists on Tuesday evening.
The incident, which occurred around 7 p.m., was captured in multiple videos shared on social media, showing thick flames and heavy smoke billowing from the explosion site.
Although the exact cause of the explosion remains unknown, several eyewitnesses on social media suggested that a petrol tanker was involved.
An X user, Tonye Oliver, described the incident as a “major disaster,” while another user, Pamilerin Adegoke, warned commuters to avoid the bridge due to the raging fire.
Emergency responders, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), quickly arrived at the scene.
LASEMA spokesperson Nosa Okunbor confirmed the explosion, stating that the agency’s Tiger Response Team had been deployed.
Efforts to contain the fire and assess the damage were ongoing at the time of this report.
