Landlords and Residents Urge Governor Adeleke to Pay Compensation for Demolished Properties

Landlords and residents of Igbona, Osogbo, Osun State, demand Governor Ademola Adeleke pay compensation for demolished properties in their community.

The demolition occurred as part of an expansion project converting roads from Olaiya Junction to Ikirun into modern dual carriageways.

Originally initiated under Rauf Aregbesola’s administration, the project has caused serious hardship for property owners affected by the demolitions.

The Justice for Landlords and Landladies Association revealed ten members died due to difficulties arising from losing their homes.

Speaking on behalf of affected property owners, Moshood Oladejo stated their demolished properties had an estimated total value of N750 million.

Since 2022, the state government has issued only one out of six promised compensation cheques to the affected landlords.

Oladejo emphasized the road dualization project impacted various areas, including Igbona, Ayetoro, Old Garage, Olonkoro, MDS, and Orita Olaiya.

“The N750 million compensation was divided into six tranches, but only one cheque of N150 million was issued.”

“With rising costs of materials like cement and iron rods, we need compensation urgently to rebuild our demolished properties.”

“We respectfully appeal to Governor Adeleke, Osun’s leader, to pay compensation as required by the law without delay.”
