Residents of Jabi-Dakibiyu, Abuja, have condemned an alleged N17 million demand by an Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) agent for a transformer after a two-month blackout.
Residents Allege Extortion Amid Prolonged Power Outage
A source revealed that despite the lack of electricity, residents still receive and pay bills. An AEDC agent reportedly asked each household to contribute N10,000 for a new transformer.
Frustrated residents urged President Bola Tinubu and FCT ministers to intervene, calling the demand exploitative and unjust.

Local Traders Decry Alleged Exploitation
A trader, Musa Fatima, accused AEDC agents of commercializing electricity supply, lamenting excessive charges on homes and businesses.
She called on the government to investigate and ensure essential infrastructure is provided without imposing extra financial burdens.
AEDC Denies Involvement in Transformer Payment
Acting AEDC Managing Director, Chijioke Okwuokenye, denied authorizing any payments, stating that asset financing follows strict company policies and regulatory standards.
