Victoria Ogunremi, a Nigerian-American woman, has been widely praised for her integrity after returning $5,700 she discovered in a restroom at her workplace in New Jersey, USA.
In a telephone interview on Monday, Ms. Ogunremi explained that her decision to return the money was driven by her Christian faith and concern for the owner of the lost funds.
“I did not hesitate to return it because of my Christian faith and beliefs. Honesty brings peace of mind, and it is the key virtue I cherish,” she said.

After finding the cash, Ms. Ogunremi ensured it was returned to its rightful owner and informed her employer’s management about the incident.
She credited her late father’s moral teachings for shaping her values. “He taught us never to take what does not belong to us. These principles have guided me throughout my life, and I hope to instil them in my children and grandchildren,” she added.
Her gesture has earned commendation from her employer, colleagues, and the owner of the money, further highlighting the impact of her act of honesty among Nigerians living abroad.
