The Cross River State Government has handed over 31 hectares of land at Adiabo, Calabar, to Family Home Fund for the construction of a women’s housing scheme under the National Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy (NPRGS).
The initiative aims to empower widows and vulnerable women in the state. The project will deliver 70 units of two-bedroom apartments, scheduled for completion by March 2025.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Dr. Ekamem Ekpo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Social Housing, praised President Bola Tinubu for the initiative and Governor Bassey Otu for facilitating the land allocation and removing operational bottlenecks.
Dr. Ekpo encouraged youth participation, highlighting opportunities for training in modern building technologies.
The project team also visited the Obong of Calabar, Spider Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, whose clan hosts the housing scheme, to discuss the community’s involvement and benefits.
The scheme underscores the government’s commitment to improving housing access and empowering women in Cross River State.
