Sanwo-Olu Commissions Abiola-Onijemo Link Road and Alapere Pedestrian Bridge in Lagos

Residents and motorists in Ifako-Ijaiye and Kosofe Local Councils of Lagos State celebrated the commissioning of the Abiola-Onijemo link road with a bridge and the reconstructed Alapere pedestrian bridge yesterday.

Residents expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the timely completion of these projects, which have significantly improved their daily lives. Nureni Ajibola, a resident, recalled the hardships they faced before the road construction, including the need to pay for a makeshift wooden bridge and the decision by some residents to sell their vehicles due to poor road conditions.

Moji Adeoye, another resident, noted the economic benefits, saying the new road would boost businesses and increase property values in the area. Adeola Okenla, who lives in the Alapere area of Ketu, highlighted the relief brought by the pedestrian bridge, which replaces a damaged structure that had forced residents to risk crossing the busy Berger-Oworonshoki expressway.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, during the commissioning ceremony, expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and promised more infrastructure projects for Lagos State. He urged residents to maintain the new facilities as public property and thanked them for their tax contributions, which funded the projects.

He also appealed to landlords and landowners to avoid raising rent and property prices, ensuring citizens fully benefit from government investments.

Hamzat Usman, Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, commended the governor’s commitment, stating that the local council has witnessed remarkable development under his leadership.

The Abiola-Onijemo link road project spans 643 meters and includes a 135-meter reinforced concrete bridge with retaining walls, 7.3-meter-wide carriageways, slip roads, walkways, and solar-powered streetlights.

These projects reflect the Sanwo-Olu administration’s dedication to infrastructure development and align with Lagos State’s broader infrastructure master plan.
