Lagos Government Cracks Down on Illegal Structures in Ikoyi's Bourdillon Road

The Lagos State Government, through its Building Control Agency (LASBCA), has commenced the demolition of shanties and unauthorized structures around the NIPOST area on Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi.

This operation, which began on Sunday, is part of a broader initiative to enhance public safety and maintain the upscale neighborhood’s urban standards.

The LASBCA confirmed that multiple Quit and Demolition Notices were issued to occupants well in advance, providing ample time for compliance. However, as illegal developments continued to proliferate, the agency was compelled to take action.

According to Gbolahan Oki, General Manager of LASBCA, the demolition was essential for safeguarding the area’s environment and security. “Despite numerous warnings and sufficient time for compliance, these unauthorized structures have persisted, posing a threat to the safety and orderliness of our city,” Oki stated.

The LASBCA plans to maintain strict enforcement of building regulations to prevent unauthorized developments from compromising Lagos’s urban landscape, particularly in high-profile areas such as Ikoyi.
