The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, reiterated the FCT Administration’s commitment to developing satellite towns and rural areas, highlighting that these initiatives remain essential to the region’s progress.
Wike made these remarks on Thursday during the inauguration of the Asuquo Okon Road (Road CN8) construction, which extends from Obafemi Awolowo Way to Olusegun Obasanjo Way in Abuja. The project, located in the Daki Biyu District, also includes upgrades to additional adjoining roads and is expected to be completed by May 2025.
The newly commissioned Collector Road CN8 marks the fourth project inaugurated this week in Abuja’s city center. Besides these urban developments, the FCT Administration plans to begin four new road projects in satellite towns from October 28, ensuring infrastructure progress across all areas.
Wike noted that the expansion of road infrastructure beyond the city core is vital for transforming rural areas. This approach aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes development for FCT’s rural communities, underscoring that all residents should feel the impact of governance.
“Mr. President insists that development should not be limited to city areas but also extend to rural regions where lower-income residents live,” Wike emphasized.
Earlier, Shehu Ahmad, Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, explained that Asuquo Okon Way will connect multiple districts—Jabi, Daki Biyu, Utako, and Wuye—boosting economic activity across these areas.
Representing the FCT in the House of Representatives, Abdurrahman Ajiya applauded Wike’s development initiatives, stressing that an improved road network is crucial for managing the increasing population in the capital.
