Flood Collapses Bridge Connecting Over 50 Communities in Oyo State

A severe flooding incident in Oyo State has led to the collapse of a crucial bridge that linked more than 50 communities in the Ibarapa East Local Government Area. The Ipin River Bridge was overwhelmed by intense rainfall that began on October 11, leaving residents stranded and without vital access routes.

Eyewitnesses report that the downpour lasted nearly 24 hours, causing the bridge’s structure to fail. Community members are urgently seeking government assistance to restore access and provide necessary support.

“This bridge was essential for our daily lives. Without it, many of us are cut off from essential services,” said a resident of Eruwa.

Local leaders are calling on Hon. Kazeem Arogundade, the Chairman of Ibarapa East Local Government, and Adebo Ogundoyin, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, to prioritize the reconstruction of the bridge and implement preventive measures for future flooding.

The incident highlights the pressing need for improved infrastructure to withstand extreme weather conditions.
