EFCC Raids Radio Station, Arrests Presenter During Live Broadcast

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided Urban Radio 94.5FM in Enugu on Monday, disrupting a live broadcast of the ‘Prime Time’ program and arresting a presenter.

The incident occurred at 6:45 pm, sparking concerns and raising questions over the conduct of the anti-graft agency.

In a statement on Tuesday, the management of Urban Radio apologized to its listeners for the unexpected disruption and expressed regret over the invasion. “Armed men identifying as EFCC barged into the studio, interrupted the live programme ‘Prime Time’, forcefully abducted our presenters, and took away communication equipment for reasons they refused to disclose,” the statement read.

The radio station assured its listeners that it was following up on the matter and would keep them informed as developments unfolded.

However, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale defended the raid, clarifying that the agency was acting to arrest Favour Ekoh, a presenter accused of involvement in a Ponzi scheme that defrauded 103 Nigerians. Oyewale added that only Ekoh was arrested and denied that the operatives seized any communication equipment.

According to the EFCC, Ekoh had ignored multiple invitations before being tracked to the station, leading to her arrest.
