Federal Ministry of Housing Launches Weekly Performance Management System

The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has officially launched its weekly Performance Management System (PMS) to enhance efficiency and accountability within the civil service.

The initiative was inaugurated on Thursday in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi, who delivered the keynote address.

Dr. Ogunbiyi explained that the PMS Day initiative is in line with the directive from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, which designated every Thursday as PMS Day across all federal ministries, departments, and agencies.

According to Ogunbiyi, the PMS is not just a bureaucratic measure but a transformative tool designed to build a performance-driven culture within the civil service. He emphasized that the framework focuses on improving accountability and productivity by systematically planning tasks, setting clear targets, and measuring the outcomes.

“This initiative marks the beginning of a transformative journey for our ministry,” Ogunbiyi stated, underlining that the PMS is essential for boosting the overall performance of public service institutions and achieving national development goals. He also pointed out that successfully implementing the PMS would strengthen the ministry’s contributions to Nigeria’s housing and urban development sector.

He added that the PMS framework is designed to foster employee development, align individual contributions with the ministry’s goals, and ultimately enhance service delivery. Ogunbiyi also encouraged staff at all levels to actively participate in performance management activities, urging senior management to lead by example.

The Permanent Secretary reiterated that the ministry’s commitment to delivering high-quality services is reflected in adopting the PMS, which will serve as a model for other government ministries and agencies.

As the ministry officially dedicates every Thursday to performance management activities, Ogunbiyi encouraged employees to identify areas for improvement and celebrate successes along the way.
