Flood Submerges Over 60 Communities in Kogi's Ibaji LGA

Over 60 communities in Ibaji Local Government Area (LGA) of Kogi State have been submerged by floodwaters, marking another devastating flood season in the area.

Ibaji, which annually faces severe flooding, is currently grappling with extensive damage to homes and infrastructure. The Ibaji Flood Plains Multipurpose Cooperative Society (IFPMPCS) has called on the Kogi State Government to respond swiftly to the disaster.

Prof. Joy Ede Ukoje, Chairperson of the IFPMPCS Executive Committee, made an urgent plea during a press briefing in Lokoja. She highlighted the need for the state government to establish a disaster relief fund to aid the affected communities and alleviate the suffering of the residents.

“The scale of flooding in Ibaji and other areas along the River Niger has gone beyond what the state government can manage alone,” Ukoje said, emphasizing the critical need for timely intervention to address the disaster’s impact.
