Two herders, Musa Haruna, 25, and Saliu Sanusi, 27, appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday for allegedly engaging in unlawful grazing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, informed the court that the defendants unlawfully grazed their cattle on a restricted government land on September 30 at about 10:00 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
The charge, according to Adeniyi, violates Section 2 of the Ekiti State Law on the Prohibition of Cattle and Other Ruminants Grazing, 2016, and is punishable under Section 7 of the same law.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge. Their counsel, Adunni Olanipekun, requested bail on their behalf, assuring the court that they would comply with bail conditions.
Chief Magistrate Dolamu Babalogbon granted bail to the defendants, setting the amount at N50,000 each with one surety in like sum. The case was adjourned for hearing on October 31.
