The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has been recognized as the Best Department of Urban and Regional Planning in Nigeria by the Town Planners Registration Council (TOPREC).
This accolade was bestowed during TOPREC’s 37th Induction Ceremony in Abuja on July 25, 2024.
Professors Isaac Aje and Joseph Basorun, representing FUTA’s School of Environmental Technology and the Department of Urban and Regional Planning respectively, accepted the award. This recognition follows a rigorous accreditation process by TOPREC, highlighting FUTA’s excellence in urban and regional planning education.

TOPREC’s Acting Registrar, TPL Uhiere Samuel Abayomi, commended FUTA for its superior knowledge, training, and skill development in the field. This is the third time FUTA has received this honor, with previous wins in 2014 and 2018.
Vice Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji expressed pride in the faculty and students’ dedication, promising continued support and resources to further enhance the university’s programs. Professor Aje credited the department’s success to its exceptional staff and facilities, many of whom are registered town planners and professors. He also acknowledged Professor Oladiji’s role in elevating the university’s status.
