1. President Bola Tinubu has been re-elected as the chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), about one year after he took over the leadership of the regional bloc. Tinubu was first elected to the position in Guinea-Bissau on July 9, 2023.
2. Fuel scarcity has resurfaced across Nigeria, particularly in Abuja and its neighboring states. This crisis is compounded by the actions of private depot owners, who have raised the ex-depot price of petrol to N720 per litre, a major increase from the previous price of N630. As a result, many filling stations in Abuja and other areas are selling petrol at prices as high as N900 per litre.
3. The Lagos State Government has issued a 48-hour eviction notice to property owners who have built illegal structures and to squatters along the Gbagada-Bariga Channel. According to the government, property owners who deliberately built structures that obstruct the free flow of water in the area will be removed.
4. The Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria has called on the government to provide free land to Nigerians to address the issue of affordable housing in the country. The Chairman of CORBON, Dr. Samson Opaluwah, stated that providing direct access to land for citizens would significantly reduce the cost of building, as land acquisition is a major factor in the overall cost of construction.

5. The managing director and chief executive of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria(FMBN), Shehu Usman Osidi has restated the need for Nigerians to embrace the housing interventions being driven by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. He noted that such interventions in form of subsidies and incentives are necessary tools to address the challenge of affordable housing in Nigeria.
6. Police authorities in Ogun State have confirmed the death of a steel worker Yahaya Ibrahim, who was killed by an engine roller after slipping on the machine at the firm’s factory – along the Sagamu-Ogijo Expressway in Ogun State – in the early hours of Sunday.
7. Workers in Nigerian universities, on Sunday, declared a nationwide protest starting from Thursday July 18, 2024, over their 4 months withheld salaries. The workers, under the aegis of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, said their meeting with the government officials have collapsed.

8. The President and Chairman of the Council, Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Victor Alonge, has said that the institute is developing a blueprint for effective maintenance of housing estates and infrastructure across the country. Alonge announced this during the second statutory meeting of the council in the 2024-25 council year held in Abuja.
9. Oyo State Government has given owners of illegally constructed buildings a deadline to remove their structures or face demolition. This action follows a condemnation by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resource, Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola.

10. The Kwara State Fire Service have saved two buildings in different locations in Ilorin, the state capital from destruction on Sunday. One of the buildings comprising 12 rooms located at no 21 Oluwatoyin Street, Olorunsogo in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state while the other was a storey building containing 10 shops on Unity Road opposite First Bank in Ilorin South Local Government Area of the state.
