No fewer than 500 houses were affected by a devastating windstorm that hit the Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, causing significant damage and injuries.
The incident occurred last Thursday, resulting in five people sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) shared a statement on its X handle on Thursday, confirming that no casualties were recorded. The impact of the windstorm led to the collapse of buildings, removal of rooftops, and breaking of walls.

NEMA’s statement read: “Over 500 houses were damaged by a windstorm in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The storm, which occurred on Thursday, May 23, 2024, resulted in five injuries but no fatalities. The incident caused the collapse of walls and structures and tore off rooftops.”

This incident is reminiscent of a similar event in July 2022, where over 100 houses in the Okubuchi community in the Boki Local Government Area of Cross River were destroyed by windstorms. That disaster led to the displacement of over 500 households and caused property damage worth N1.5 billion.
