The 2024 budget proposal for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been presented to the House of Representatives by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The proposal, read out by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, at plenary on Tuesday, March 12, focuses on key areas such as health care services, job creation, youth empowerment, and agriculture to lift many citizens out of poverty.
In accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, the budget proposal was prepared by the Honourable Minister of the FCT based on the FCTA revenue and expenditure focus, aligning with the fiscal and development policy of the federal government and the Renewed Hope Agenda. It also takes into consideration the 2024/2026 Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, as well as key assumptions in the 2024 budget.
Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas urged members to give the budget proposal the consideration and approval it deserves to ensure the effective implementation of the outlined priorities.

In a related development, the House addressed the abduction of over one hundred and eighty teachers and students in Kaduna State. A motion under Matters of Urgent National Importance, moved by Hon. Munir Ahmed from Kaduna State, appealed to the Office of the National Security Adviser and security agencies to urgently rescue the abducted individuals.
Additionally, Hon. Austin Achadu from Benue State called for the rehabilitation and adequate security measures for communities facing incessant attacks. Similarly, Hon. Paul Haruna from Kogi State expressed concern over recent armed robbery attacks in parts of the state, urging collaboration between the federal and state governments to prevent future occurrences.
The House has called for swift action to address these urgent issues and ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
